'Heaven or Hell' lyrics and annotations

Here we have made some annotations on the lyric sheet of our song. This helped us come up with our narrative which will be explained later in our treatment pitch.  We found that the lyrics had a lot of religious imagery and also had a semantic field of war and magic. the song was also very long but we managed to cut it down to 3mins and 38 secs.

Planning for our treatment pitch!

These are some pictures we took while we were planning for our treatment pitch where we explain all our ideas for our music video to the rest of our media class.

Moodboard

Running With The Wolves by Aurora

This was one of the songs we considered using for our music video but we decided against it because the music video itself was already to powerful and something that we would like to do ourselves. we liked the concept of this video of what almost seems dystopian. i really liked the mise-en-scene and costume, with a gray colour palette as it creates an almost melancholic and dystopian atmosphere. The vast and empty spaces almost gives the  music video a very strong and powerful image. We also really liked some of the shots. The wide shot of the artist running we found was really powerful and maybe something that we would like to use in our video, although it would have to suit the pace of our song like this shot does. Additionally, I really like the ending of this music video where there is a long/wide shot of the artist in the lake as it is a very finite way of ending the music video as she goes underwater.

Song Choice Decision: Finally made up our minds!

Our group had three songs to chose from for our music video, and in the end we decided to use the song Heaven Or Hell by Digital Daggers. This is because we really liked the overall melancholic tone of the song. And although it is not very fast paced, it has a steady beat through out that could lend its self to faster paced editing. We also really liked the song Running With The Wolves by Aurora, but we decided against this because we felt that we would not be able to do anything different from the original video and we would be to greatly influenced by it, so we chose this song which has a similar tone to Running With The Wolves and is very powerful as well.

So far my group are contemplating the idea of having a sort of mythological or fairy tale concept for the narrative about inner struggle and good vs evil.

Song Choice 3: Little White Lies by Florrie

This is the third song that our group really liked. This is because it is very upbeat and lends itself to fast pace editing, also the chorus is very catchy.

Song Choice 2: Heaven Or Hell by Digital Daggers

This is another song that my group likes, however it is more like electro pop than indie. We also thought that although it was quite powerful, it wasn't very fast paced and may not have lent itself to a variety of editing techniques. Unlike another song that we really like, it has no music video.

Song Choice 1: Running With The Wolves by Aurora

This is a song that everyone in my group likes very much. This is because it is a very powerful song with a strong message, it is also upbeat enough to give us more opportunities for faster paced editing. However, due to it having a very powerful music video already, we don't want to be influenced by it to much it we were to use this as a song for our own music video.

For Those Who Wait by Fireflight

This  indie rock music video combines both performance and narrative elements. I really like this because the narrative allows us to understand the lyrics a lot better while the performance side is much more fast paced and is very powerful.

Happiness by Red Velvet

This is another Kpop song and the main reason  I decided to put in on my blog is the effects that they used in the video. In particular I really like the kaleidoscope and mirror effects as it makes the music video very entertaining and interesting to watch. I also like the abstract and performance elements of the video as it makes the video very memorable.

The kaleidoscope and mirror effects in an indie setting could represent struggle and confusion which are themes that we would like to include in out music video, and is typical of an indie music video.
