Intetextuality refers to the interrelationship between texts, often found in literature.
This is where one media text references one or more media texts such as film, TV, print media, fashion, games and advertisement. This is reflected in the style of a music video or it is done in a comedic way, also known as parodies. It help the audiences take meaning away from the text.
Examples:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication (references video game)
Iggy Azalea - Fancy (References movie 'Clueless')

BFI Trip
On Thursday, we went to the BFI for a media studies conference. At this conference we discussed the history of music videos and tips on how to create our own.
The first music video was made in the 1930's which seemed to be very abstract, experiments with colour, lighting and texture.
In the 1940's, artists such as King Cole mainly focused on performance elements and the star them selves in oder to promote the artist.
In the 1950's the role of televison in music became very important. Artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ed Sullivan and King Cole had their own TV shows. Elvis Presley and his music appeared in film, promoting himself.
The 70's was the birth of the pop promo with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, where they focused on tight, texture, mood and atmosphere.
the 80's was another revolutionary year for the music industry as MTV was born! This allowed Music videos to be viewed more. The Specials Rat Race was the first black arsitst and music video to played on MTV.

In the 60's, The Beatles used music videos to create an artist image. The following music video shows The Beatles performing while girls watch and listen, creating the image that they are popular.

Framing: Rule of Thirds
What is 'Rule Of Thirds'
Definition:
The Rule of thirds is a concept in photography, film and video production in which the frame is divided into nine sections. These act a guide lines or reference on how to frame something.
Ed Sheeran's 'A-Team' is a good example of using the rule. For examples, there are several shots in this music video where the rule has been applied.

The protagonist is paced where the lines intersect which creates a lot of leading space which makes it look more naturalistic but dramatic at the same time.

Laura Mulvey: Male Gaze Theory
Whilst researching about theorist, I happened across this slideshow that explains this theory very well.
Diggi-Pack Ideas
The photo below was taken in Nichole's photography lesson and we thought that doing something similar for our diggi-pack as it is very dramatic.
Here we are trying something similar with Nicole with thicker lines. we thought this looked similar to prison bars which reflect the lyrics to our song as the artist feels trapped.
Here is a similar photo to one of the photos we have shown before but without Nicole and with red instead of blue. we thought that this would look good on the back of the diggi-pack.
Projector Ideas!
While playing around with the projectors and LED lights, we came up with a few ideas for our music videos. We used a secondary image of clouds and projected it onto Nicole. We decided to use the clouds here as they have interesting texture. We also liked the multiple colours as the colours can help set the mood and the bright colours create a fun and 'pop-y" atmosphere. Also it looks very dramatic.
We took inspiration for this from One Direction's music video "Perfect" and Taeyeon's "I" music video.
It is possible that we could also use this for our diggi-pack cover. like Katie Sky's "Paradise" and Tove Lo "Queen of the clouds" who is similar to the arises Florrie.

Ricahrd Dyer's Star Theory
This slideshow that I found clearly explains this theory.
John Lewis Christmas Advert 2015
This advert uses Aurora for the background music. Aurora is an indie-pop artist and the fact that she is used in this advert shows how indie artists a promoting themselves and are making their may into the mainstream media. This may help us when we do our diggi-pack.
Who is our target audience?
As a group we have decided to target our music video to 15-20 year old females. This is because this is the audience that seemed to like indie and indie-pop or similar genres the most. Also, our song choice is very upbeats and fun which may attract this audience the most. Our artist is also female, whereas many indie artists are male, which may relates to a more female audience and make us stand out.
Audience Feedback for Questionnaires
These are just some of the responses we have had to our questionnaires. Most of the responses came from females in their teens. Many also expressed a dislikes to nudity in music videos and many seemed to like indie music or similar music genres.

Audience Theory: Hypodermic needle theory
To help explain the theory, we found this slide that will help us.
Also known as the "Magic Bullet" theory, the Hypodermic Needle Theory is when the media "Injects" information directly into the audiences mind. The audience here is seen as very passive and powerless to stop it. Therefore it suggests that the media can control what we think is right and wrong and can even influence how we behave. For example, when 'War of The Worlds' was broadcast on a radio and was made to bee very realistic, many people thought that we were being invaded by aliens and created moral panic.

Creating questionaire
To help us with audience and market research, we have created a questionnaire. Here are some of the questions that we will ask people. We have used 'suerveymonkey', but we might also create a poll on twitter, film interviews and give out questionnaires to others as well. Most of our questions are open questions as we feel that qualitative data might be a little more valuable as it may give more detailed information. However, it might be a little more difficult to analyse.

Inspirational Music Video: 'I' by Taeyeon
This music video is mix of performance and narrative and is very close something that out group would like to do for our music video. I also really like the aerial shots as it gives the music video a very open and refreshing atmosphere. Furthermore, I like the bright lighting as it emphasises the message of the song and is really refreshing.

Day 2-Behind the scenes filming
Today we went to Grovelands Park to start filming. The location was really nice, especially with all the Autumn leaves but, unfortunately, it began to rain. It wasn't to heavy at first and we were able to film a lot of the shots we had planned to film and worked alongside the rain. However, as the day progressed we were unable to continue and found it very difficult to film in the rain. We have left a few scenes for another day such as going into the lake ( we also though that the lake at Grovelands was a little too deep to wade through) and a few of the open field shots.
Animatic and Storyboard feedback
Now that we have changed our ideas and have finished the storyboard and animatic for our new song, it was important that we got some audience feedback. We showed these items to our friends and asked what they thought. Below, I have transcribed some of the things that they said.
"I like the narrative. It suits the lyrics of the song and is something that a lot of people our age can relate to."
"How would you do the ending of the girl in the lake? wouldn't it be difficult to go in the water in this weather?"
"I like that you have the two different scenes as it can represent the two different sides to herself."
"Maybe you should make it so the editing will be a little faster and to the beat of the song so that they can match better."
"I like that the narrative is about someone lying to their friends about their feelings as it something a lot of young people can relate to."

Shooting schedule
Since we had half-term, we thought that it was a good idea to go out to film. However we found that is was very difficut to find time to meet up as we were all very busy. So we made a shooting schedule to help organise ourselves. We sat down a discussed which days we were free for filming, where we needed to be, what equipment and props we needed and any additional notes.
